Children participating in Holi festivities with colored powder

At Haute House Studio we are fortunate to learn about various traditions through conversations with our clients. This month, we are focusing on the beautiful pageantry and decoration found in Indian customs. Holi is a national Hindu festival that signifies the beginning of spring. The festival is for friends and family to engage and have a little fun forgetting their worries for the day. Who doesn’t need that? How do we celebrate? A rainbow of colored powder is thrown upon one another in playful appreciation. Best part, there is no age limit! The colored powder can be naturally derived from marigold, indigo, sunflower, and pink hibiscus flowers. Kids often use water balloons or water pistols filled with colored water to surprise their targets! Fellow Haute House Designer, Sonia Prickett brings home the colored powder for her kids to use in the snow - last year it was thrown on igloos and snowmen! This year, the festival will be celebrated on March 10. Millions of people all over the world will be painted in these glorious colors. Live life to it’s fullest this spring!
