All of the blooms were cut from our own Haute House Gardens in Edina and all are easy to grow, hardy perennials (except verbena - it’s an annual). Here is what we used:
Easy Step-By-Step Instructions:
Choose a vase and fill it with water and flower food. You will first be creating the arrangement while holding it in your hand and by grouping like blooms together.
Remove all leaves and foliage that will be below the water line from all the flower stems.
Take a group of 4-6 stems of red astilbe in your hand. Add a group of several Blue Jade hosta.
Add your stems of red Knock-Out roses. (Be careful of the thorns!)
Add several stems of Lady’s Mantle to each side of the arrangement.
“Collar” the arrangement by adding Patriot hosta leaves around the arrangement.
Add a few blue verbena blooms and then add your white hydrangea.
Cut all the stems to the right length for your vase. ***Special Tip - to prevent your hydrangea from wilting later in the vase, cut the stem at an angle and dip it in Alum - a pickling spice available in the spice aisle or in our Haute House Studio tool kit.
Add your American flag and you are done!
